Woodwork & Gloss in Wednesbury

Woodwork painting in Wednesbury — skirting, doors, frames, stairs and bannisters. Rubbed down properly, finished in satin or gloss, no runs.

Woodwork is where a decorating job is judged, and Wednesbury woodwork tends to be older and thicker with paint than most. The only route to a flat finish is taking the ridges out first.

What's involved

Woodwork & Gloss in Wednesbury, done properly

Rubbed back, not painted over

Ridges and runs sanded out, edges cut clean.

Knots and bare wood sealed

Knotting solution on every knot and primer on anything bare. Skip it and the resin bleeds a brown stain through your new white inside a year, which is the commonest fault we are called back to on somebody else's work.

Satin or gloss, your call

On the older Wednesbury skirtings satin is usually the honest answer - it forgives a hundred years of small dents. Gloss is sharper and it wants sound, flat wood underneath it to look right.

Doors done off the hinge where needed

A door painted hanging always shows on the edges.

Woodwork & Gloss — your questions

Can you get a smooth finish on old skirting?

To a point, and it depends what is under the paint. Wednesbury woodwork often carries six or seven coats and a lot of filled dents. Rubbed down properly and finished in satin it will look genuinely good; promised in high gloss it will show every one of those dents.

Satin or gloss?

Satin on old woodwork, nine times out of ten — it hides small imperfections that gloss lights up.

Do you paint stairs and bannisters?

Yes. We work in halves so the stairs stay usable throughout, which matters when there is only one way up.
